Drone Services for Solar Farms

Aerial thermal inspections are the standard way to identify underperforming modules across solar PV farms, far faster than handheld surveys.

What gets detected

Thermal scans identify hot spots, cell-level failures, bypass diode issues, soiling, shading and PID. Visual scans pick up cracked glass, junction-box damage and tracker faults.

How surveys are flown

Drones fly automated grid patterns at 40–80 m above the array, carrying radiometric thermal and high-resolution RGB cameras. Best results need clear skies and high irradiance (typically >600 W/m²).

Deliverables

Typical outputs include a per-module anomaly report (with severity rating), GIS-tagged thermal mosaic, exportable defect list (CSV/SHP) and recommendations for O&M crews.

Pricing

Pricing scales with array size and deliverable depth — small commercial arrays from a few hundred dollars, utility-scale sites running into several thousand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Clear, sunny days at solar noon ±2 hours give the best thermal contrast. Cloud cover or low irradiance reduces detection accuracy.
